Last day of Joburg Prayer-walk

Yesterday - on the last day of the of this incredible walk around Joburg, it all came together like this:
I stood on a hill overlooking the whole city which took me 7 days to walk around. And then it started: Rain, hail, thunder and wind!!
I saw water trickle from the side of the road. These trickles soon became streams and the streams turned into a mighty gushing of water which I couldnt cross ... and I remembered how this prayerwalk started with Ez 47. The water first ankle deep, knee deep waste deep and eventually to deep to cross ... and when it flowed into the dead sea - it made everything fresh. And I knew in my heart - mission accomplished... And I understand that unless God washes this City - it cannot be clean. So lets keep on praying.

Wow on a prayerwalk

After 10 hrs, eventually, I walked through De Deur - Then the blessings came...
Free dinner
Free hotel suite
Free breakfast
and it all began when twice this morning, as I walked past, someone would call: Hey Johnny Walker!
And tonighite, after a long day's walk, I started looking for a place to camp.
A sign said Johnnie Walker - I'm uncomfortable in a pub but I felt to go in.
When I asked about a campground, guys started asking about this prayerwalk and i could tell 2 testimonies of miracles i've seen on prayerwalks.
A guy offered me to choose anything for dinner - he'll pay!
Few moments later he said he'd also put me up at this fancy hotel for the night but
the hotel owner said no it will be free - breakfast included
... Now its time to worship!!

Footprints in the dead Sea Joburg sand

Footprints

Walking on the dusty dead sea sand
... hot, dry and deadly air
scorching through dirty, sticky hair
wrinkles around the eyes reflect the wear and tear
sweaty droplet trickles down the unwiped cheek
onto lips that have never uttered to the Lord a prayer
from the hard and unknown lonely heart
surrounded by walls and hurts so deep
do you know what it is and Who you seek?
come walk with Jesus; hand-in-hand
and see the countless footprints in the sand
of those who prayed for you
through your wear and tear
you were so unaware
how they often placed you in His care
come walk with Jesus; hand-in-hand
let the gentle breeze
of the Holy Spirit bring you ease
bring rest to your weary and tired knees
come walk with Jesus; hand-in-hand
and you will know the love of a Father
and see the countless footprints in the sand
of those who prayed for you
you have a sister and a brother
and we walk with you, on your sand

Speechless...
This is how I feel when I see God revealing Himself as I put the plans for this prayer-walk onto paper.

Speechless...
This is how I see people react when I tell about how God makes things come together in the planning.

Let me share what I have seen in the planning for the Dead Sea prayer-walk around Johannesburg; and what has left me speechless.

As I pondered the 210km prayer-walk around the city of Johannesburg and the Holy Spirit spoke into my heart to walk around Johannesburg as if walking around the dead sea, I started planning this prayer-walk by mapping the border of Johannesburg and breaking it down into daily sections.

The over-all theme is be Ezekiel 47, where we read about how Ezekiel saw the water flowing from the temple. He sees it being measured - first ankle deep, then knee-deep, then waist-deep, then so deep he could not pass through. When the waters enter the dead sea; it becomes fresh. This river makes the water in the dead sea fresh and everything will live where the river goes. And there will be many kinds of fish in the dead sea - and fishermen will come there for the catch.

On Sunday morning 5 Dec 2010, I will be starting off by attending the early-morning service at Little Falls Christian Centre. From there I walk to Clearwater Mall to attend the morning service at H2O Ministries Int. From there I cross over the hills which serve as the watershed for two of southern Africa's mightiest rivers, the Limpopo and the Orange river. After 37km, the end for this day will be in Watermeyer Street. (Watermeyer: 2 words = Water + (meh YER) Origin: Hebrew - Meaning: He who illuminates)

It is kind of logical by now that the theme for the first day will be water. And we pray that God's presence and the gospel of thruth will come into this city ankle deep, knee-deep, waist-deep and so deep we cannot help ourselves - but just cling to Jesus.

Monday (6 November 2010)
The most significant thing of the second day (for me) will be passing through "De Deur" (The Door). We have seen the waters starting from the threshold, we now come to the door and we pray that the doors and the gates will open for God to rule and reign in this city. And more - Jesus is The Door (John 10:9) I am the door. If anyone enters by me, he will be saved and will go in and out and find pasture.

Tuesday (7 Dec 2010)
On the third day I will pass ruins of the dwellings of Sotho/Tswana people who lived there 300 and more years ago, as well as an old farmhouse, old war fortifications and sites from the gold rush days.

Wednesday (8 Dec 2010)
As I pass a local and an international airport, 2 things stand out for me:
The river that made the dead sea fresh - also brought fish of all kinds. People of all kinds are in Joburg. And now the harvest is ready - and we pray for revival in this city Lord. and we pray that You will use those who are already fishers of men to proclaim your gospel of truth. and let your good news spread from here into Africa and out to the whole world, Let your children "soar like eagles"

Thursday (9 Dec 2010)
I feel this day we will be praying against false Gods, idols and all kinds of strongholds.

Friday (10 Dec 2010)
Fro this day I have on my heart - the seeking and the lost

Saturday (11 Dec 2010)
Bask and walk in God's glory

Sunday (12 Dec)
We pass through an area called Honeydew and I read these words as we plan to walk with God.
Joel 3 18 “And in that day
the mountains shall drip sweet wine,
and the hills shall flow with milk,
and all the streambeds of Judah
shall flow with water;
and a fountain shall come forth from the house of the LORD
and water the Valley of Shittim.

Lord Jesus
As we prepare for this walk with You
i pray that You will draw each one of us closer to You
and as we pray for this city that You will draw people closer to You
and that You will make our hearts compassionate
to pray for those who are in this city
uae us Lord
for Your glory
in Jesus' name
... amen

Dead Sea prayer-walk around Johannesburg

As I pondered the prompting in my heart, to go on the 210km prayer-walk around the city of Johannesburg, the Holy Spirit spoke a very interesting thing to me:

Walk around Johannesburg as if you are walking around the dead sea...

I was intrigued and I delved deeper to understand God's heart.

I thought I was to pray
  • About the death and destruction in the city.
  • About the barrenness and isolation that people experience.
  • About the sinfulness and crime.

But the Lord impressed on my heart to pray along the words in Ez 47...
  • About water flowing from the temple, from a trickle to mighty river, into the Dead Sea.
  • About how this river makes the water in the Dead Sea fresh so everything will live where the river goes.
  • About how fishermen will come to fish and the fish will be of many kinds.

He also showed me a principle in Jer 29:7 to pray to the Lord on behalf of the welfare of the city, for in its welfare you will find your welfare.

I Timothy 2:1-2 First of all, then, I urge that supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life, godly and dignified in every way.

This sets the theme for my first long distance prayer-walk since the one through New Zealand.
I Invite you to join me in this adventure, by being a prayer-partner. I will keep you updated via posts online as I get to face challenges that I and we all should pray for. You can then pray as the Holy Spirit leads you, and what makes it so much more interesting is when you give feedback of what God speaks to you as you pray. That just completes the whole picture of how great God is and how much He cares for us.

I have taken the 2nd week of December off and will let you know the time and day when I will be starting. I need to cover 30-40km daily.

Below is a map which you can use to track my progress. You are welcome to join me at any stage of this prayer-walk for a time of communion or prayers (just bring bread and water)... or just to say Hi or walk a with me for a while.

The first reaction I get from almost everyone is the following: But where are you going to sleep???
My answer is the same as for all the previous long-distance prayer-walks ... I walk with God and I have learned to trust in Him - so I have no answer to that and just step out in faith that He called me to this ministry of prayer-walking, and I have learned and am learning to trust Him to work that out. it is really an adventure to walk with God and I pray that you will experience Him deeper and give Him more of your heart and mind each day.

And now Lord Jesus
we commit this week of prayer for Johannesburg into Your hands
Lord
use us
lead us
pray through us
speak through us
we are your willing vessels
and we are in Your service
we desire nothing but You
and we lift Your name over Johannesburg
Jesus ... Jesus ... Jesus
amen...

A Peter prayer-walk

This post is not about a prayer-walk I have done.
It is about the Lord Jesus walking
and impacting Peter, AND history...

And now I have to just go and walk a long way
to think about His amazing love for me

Art by Lillis Boyer

He came ... walking on the water
that dark and scary night
my heart jumped - I really got a fright
Later He told me that a believing son or daughter
will do greater works than He
but that night, I was so afraid
The wind blew hard and the water sprayed
as I sank, I cried: Lord save me!

He took hold of fearful, sinking ... me

I remember the first time we met
the toil and half a sinking ship - I was also wet
I said: Depart from me, I am a sinful man... and then
He said: From now you will be a fisher of men
I forsook all - even that miraculously broken net
Since that day He said, many times, to me:
Fear not ...

he wasn't there, when I followed at a distance
to say Fear not - as I warmed myself at the fire
telling them I do not know the man
Then He looked at me

His love for me is unending

Suddenly, from heaven, the sound of a mighty rushing wind
and there appeared tongues as of fire
and I remember the water
and I remember the fire
and I remember the grace
and i remember the love

and I dance in His glory

in the fire

on the water

and all fear is gone

Gold medal prayer-walk

A gold medal represents some kind of reward.

Yesterday I was rewarded for months and years of training and dedication. But not by one token only...

As one of 55 000 participants, I queued for over 3 hours this week to collect my registration pack for the 2010 Walk-the-Talk event. While standing in that line, I saw a relative going past. I haven't seen her in many years and before I could greet her, she was gone...

I took part in the competitive race which was over 30km. We started at 06:30 am and after about 2 km I started to pray as I usually do while I train. These were just some random things that I talked to God about and I also shared a few encouraging words with fellow walkers as we passed each other.

Just after the half-way mark something very interesting happened. The Holy Spirit reminded me of a sign I saw earlier that morning.
I still see it clearly:
A big BLACK number on a WHITE background - the number "22".

It is amazing how I was looking down at that moment, and then as I looked up, I noticed down the entrance of the house I was racing past;
A big WHITE number on a BLACK background - the number "22".

Instantly I started praying for the family in that house. I didn't receive any information from God as to why I was praying for that house or the people in it, but I know that when He leads us to pray, and we pray as He leads - we sometimes don't even understand what we are praying for.

My mind didn't understand and I wondered about praying for the family in that house. Later, almost at the end of the 30km, I prayed for something else very specific...

I asked God to let me meet up with the family member who I saw while waiting in the queue during the week. Before the start of the race, my wife and I arranged a meeting place and time, because such a massive crowd could make it almost impossible to find each other. After finishing the race I was waiting at the place we arranged.

And standing amongst a massive crowd of people, here that relative comes walking right past me. We talked, caught up a bit and arranged how to reconnect. Awesome!

To me, that is answer to prayer!

Then I also knew - whatever I prayed for number "22" is in the heart and hands of the same God who answers prayer. Whatever He laid on my heart to pray, will be fulfilled. Sometimes He just encourages me to keep on praying, because prayer is such a powerful and REAL thing - AND it really works.

I read this in Job 22 (The Message):
Give in to God, come to terms with him
and everything will turn out just fine.
Let him tell you what to do;
take his words to heart.
Come back to God Almighty
and he'll rebuild your life.
Clean house of everything evil.
Relax your grip on your money
and abandon your gold-plated luxury.
God Almighty will be your treasure,
more wealth than you can imagine.

This means more to me than the gold medal that I received for winning the Veteran Section for men.

"Teach me Holy Spirit
to hear your voice.
Teach me Holy Spirit
to recognise when You lay something
or someone on my heart to pray for.
Teach me Holy Spirit
about cleaning my heart and house.
Teach me Holy Spirit
to release my grip on money.
Teach me Holy Spirit
to trust in You fully.
Teach me Holy Spirit
to learn from You.
I ask this in Jesus' name
amen...

21 laps for Uganda prayer-walk

During the week I felt an increasing urge to pray for Uganda. More specific for the area around Moyo in the North; an area that has been in war for over 20 years. The people are displaced and in need of many services and supplies.

The first week first week of August will see a 3-day crusade in that area, and a visit to 2 camps for distributing clothes and supplies to many, many displaced families. "Winds of Holy Fire" and "Redemption Ministries International"-ministry teams will also be ministering to orphans and widows.

I cannot go (I think) - but I will pray.

On Saturday I was ready to start off on a long prayer-walk, to intercede and also to discuss with God what is on His heart... And how to pray and what to pray for.

I planned this prayer-walk a little in the sense that I wanted to walk around one of the most modern athletic tracks in the area. I felt to take a pen and a note pad, and every time I completed a lap, I would stop and write down what the Lord said...

Did I get the surprise of my day - and I believe also a very prophetic message when I arrived at the stadium. The stadium is open for members of the public - but has security guard-controlled access. The main gate was locked and the security guard was no-where in sight... Ohh I thought; and off I went around the outside perimeter towards the side-entrances.

Everything locked and un-manned. On my way back to the main gate, the Lord spoke into my heart...

A little way from this modern track was an unused, "part dirt road, part grassy path, part flat rocks"-dirt track.

Lets walk there, said God...
Yes Lord, said I...

Even at the start of this walk I felt impressed to encourage the ministry team to make all effort to make this outreach one that is fully Holy Spirit led.

Everything must be under the full leading of the Holy Spirit. Then He will be able to move in the way that He wants.

Father God, I pray that this outreach will be the full control of Your Holy Spirit.
Holy Spirit, we give You full control right now - even in the planning phases.
And Lord God we ask that You will move in a mighty way in this outreach.
And Lord Jesus, that many hearts will turn to You.
We bless Your name
and we worship You in what we are now preparing for You Lord.
in Jesus name
amen

And as I started off the first lap, this is what the Holy Spirit spoke to me about this trip - and also to share with the ministry team:
This will be - Not at all what you are expecting.
Even as I expected to prayer-walk on the most sophisticated track; I had to go into a more rural part in the area and walk a rough dirt track.
People in Uganda will see in you a little bit of civilisation - a little bit of the modern world BUT after you have left, they will have to stay back there, in their own rhythm, in the way they are used to. The memory that they will hold of you will be of something a little bit different to what they are. So meet them on their level. treat them on their level. take them by the hand on their level and then - for the time you are there - walk with them on their level.

You will be to many people a reflection of God's glory in your life.
The cleaner the window, the clearer the reflection...
So be holy.
Live, and purposefully live, holy lives.
Prepare yourselves in alignment to the Word.
Be transparant, Live JESUS and you will reflect JESUS

Go team...Go ... because people will see the Fire of God in YOU...

False fires - Beware of the smoke ...
If God starts a fire in Your life, it will be a life-giving fire - even the smoke will be holy and life-giving.
If the fire is not from God - the smoke will choke.
So, stay close to God and You will be in the right place.
Our God is an all-consuming fire and pray with me from Isaiah 33:

Dear Lord God
we pray this scripture over Moyo and the Northern area of Uganda
11 You conceive chaff; you give birth to stubble;
your breath is a fire that will consume you.
12 And the peoples will be as if burned to lime,
like thorns cut down, that are burned in the fire.
13 Hear, you who are far off, what I have done;
and you who are near, acknowledge my might.
14 The sinners in Zion are afraid;
trembling has seized the godless:
Who among us can dwell with the consuming fire?
Who among us can dwell with everlasting burnings?
15 He who walks righteously and speaks uprightly,
who despises the gain of oppressions,
who shakes his hands, lest they hold a bribe,
who stops his ears from hearing of bloodshed
and shuts his eyes from looking on evil,
16 he will dwell on the heights;
his place of defense will be the fortresses of rocks;
his bread will be given him; his water will be sure.
17 Your eyes will behold the king in his beauty;
they will see a land that stretches afar.

Thank You Lord Jesus
amen

Ministry teams - you must know this -
You are a ray of hope, flown in by air...

This outreach will build character in your own lives.

This outreach will also lead to your own spiritual walk with God to move to a new, deeper level.

On this outreach - there will be amazing things that you will experience in the spiritual realm. You will be able to walk in the warm glow of God's presence and you will be able to discern (like a sudden icy cold breeze) the change in the spiritual "temperature". God is going to make you very sensitive to the things in the spirit.

Lord I pray for the ministry team - for perserverence.
Lord I pray that You will anoint them and that You will give them grace to perservere.
We ask this in Your name Lord Jesus
amen

Ministry team - It is going to be primitive. be prepared. And be ready to be ready in season

Lord Jesus
I pray that the team will:
"Preach the word; be ready in season and out of season;
reprove, rebuke, and exhort, with complete patience and teaching.
" (II Timothy 4:2)

I pray Lord Jesus that they will:
tackle challenges head-on because they are grounded in YOU
they know where they are going and they have their hands in YOUR mighty hand.

Lord I thank You for the training in every team member's life -
Team, I feel to encourage you and say that your training so far has been good.

Lord Jesus
I pray that this outreach will be filled with testimonies of Godly choices
I pray each team member will continually make Godly choices.
and that You will give each one individually and also for the team as a group - Clear Direction

Thank You for that Lord Jesus
amen

Now I have a word of caution for the ministry team members
There is witchcraft and trickery in the area
Things are not always what they seem
BUT
The Lord gave me encouragement to give to you:
You will see the bigger picture
You will have insight
because He will show you BEFORE the time
Just trust Him
and Him and His Word alone

Peace I leave with you,
my peace I give unto you:
not as the world giveth,
give I unto you.
Let not your heart be troubled,
neither let it be afraid.

And now I have told you before it come to pass,
that, when it is come to pass, ye might believe.
(John 14:27/29)

And Team, remember this - which you already know -
Charmers are not from God
Neither are unlucky numbers...

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
Who is that;
hiding in the bushes?

Who is that;
standing around the corner?

Who is that;
hiding BUT staring intently at you?

Who is that;
too scared to run and too curious to ignore you?

Who is that;
among the tall grass, waiting to see what you will do?

It is just a very lost soul, searching...
It is just a very lost heart, searching...
It is just a very confused mind, searching...

It is someone who God knows intimately;
someone who God loves unconditionally;
who doesn't even know they are really deep down searching for GOD!

It is someone
a dear someone
searching for
hope
love
direction
understanding

and for
True Light in their darkness
A solid foundation (Rock)
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Be grounded in the Word because you will encounter people who have been exposed to split versions of the Gospel.
The only way to help will be from the Word and by hearing from the Holy Spirit.

Be encouraged that your visit will bring peace in many lives.
Your outreach will bring Peace among death and destruction.
And be encouraged that your ammunition in these war-torn areas is PEACE

Godly PEACE...

In the darkness God is giving you
Night Vision
Night Vision like that of the owl
That you will see things that are hidden for the normal eye
Things in the darkness need to be exposed
You will see them
and expose them.

Here is the key and the most important thing I have to say to you as ministry team

he gives wisdom to the wise
and knowledge to those who have understanding;
he reveals deep and hidden things;
he knows what is in the darkness,
and the light dwells with him.
Daniel 2:21b-22

And I encourage you with this about our Bright Morning Star:
For God, who said,
Let light shine out of darkness,
has shone in our hearts to give the light of the
knowledge of the glory of
God in the face of Jesus Christ.
(II Corinthians 4:6)

Just know that you are being watched -
not by people lying down in the bush
nor from behind the barrel of a machine gun
but by people hiding - standing in wait -
because they see in you ...
H O P E

As I set out to do lap 21, the Lord spoke into my heart -
Don't walk, march.
I feel that is prophetic
because as I marched around that dilapidated track,
in the spirit I was marching with the ministry teams as they would walk in the Lord's army
in the spirit
and as the Lord GOD sounds the trumpet
we will march forth with Him

I encourage You to give this your all because when you look back,
you will see that God had His eye on you all the time
Jesus was there
in all His glory and splendor

He is the radiance of the glory of God and the exact imprint of his nature, and he upholds the universe by the word of his power. (Heb 1:3)

Walk-with-God prayer-walk

During race-walk training, I did one of my personal best times today.
That is the boring version of my testimony of God's goodness...

Here is the exciting version:
As I passed the 8km mark I was in a bit of a competitive battle with 3 other athletes. Thoughts went through my head about my position - relative to the others.

One was a bit ahead, the other almost next to me and the other just behind.

The time-trial was too competitive for chatting, and we were training too hard anyway. So I just talked with the Lord as we went along.

I explained to the Lord how I understand the positioning of the other athletes. I think the Holy Spirit laid on my heart to ask the following:

"Lord, one athlete is there in the front
the other here and another behind...
but Lord ... where exactly are you walking in this race?"

"Lord, if I race-walk like this, where are You walking ...?"

He astounded me by gently whispering this into my heart:
I am right in front of you...
I am on your left...
I am on your right...
I am behind you...
I am underneath you...
I am above you...

And there in the street, in the suburbs, in the city, in the winter cold - He warmed my heart.

He is
with me...
with me...
with me...
with me...
with me...
with me...

Oh Lord
Thank You that You are with each one reading this right now
Thank You that You surround us with Your presence
with Your love, with Your friendship
And thank You that we can know that You are God and You are King
And You are interested in all we do.
You are here when we dream
You are here when we work
You are here when we hurt
You are here when we cry...

Thank You Lord Jesus
We now rest in You
In knowing that You are here with us
all around us
and most of all Lord

Thank You that You are inside us...
Amen

OUTside IN prayer-walk

As I set out on an early morning training session; race-walking for 15km, I had only one thing in mind: to walk out 7,5km and back in a competitive time along that busy road.

Walking out in the fresh (cold) air, all went well, but as I turned back the Holy Spirit whispered into my heart: "Just pray"

When the Holy Spirit speaks ... especially when He speaks gently... I have come to realise that those are the times to really give heed. And I did...

It broke my speed and brought my focus in another direction (a deeper way)

As I walked, He lead me in prayer in the following way
and He let me understand the following about when we pray
its about what we do and what we pray during the day
whether at work or at play
This is what I heard him say:

What are you doing on the outside?
In other words - what do passers-by see you do?
I answered that I was walking.
People who see me, can see I am walking.

The next question was interesting:
What are you doing on the inside?
In other words - what's happening in your heart?
I answered that I was talking to Him
People who see me walking, can't see talking with God.
I'm actually communing with God.

On the outside I am an athlete, race-walking
On the inside I am a child, communing with my Father.

What are you doing daily - on the outside? And
What are you doing daily - on the inside?

I was challenged!

About 20 minutes later the Lord shifted my focus to a Taxi driver. And He nudged me to pray for him. God spoke clearly as I prayed:
On the outside, he is a Taxi driver
On the inside ... He is terribly, terribly broken
And He gave me such compassion for that man -
And as I prayed and as he passed by, I looked in his bloodshot eyes
And I saw an expression of devastation, and I saw hate

... And I understood the OUTside IN thing.
On the outside he is a taxi driver
On the inside he is a broken man

And I am still overwhelmed by the compassion the Lord laid on my heart for this man.
I am still praying for him.

How about you?
What are you doing on the outside?
Are you despite what's happening on the outside, communing with God on the inside?

It is a challenge BUT I want to walk this road.
come walk with Me

A-Z Prayer-walk [Actually Z to A]

I felt in my heart to go on a
A to Z prayer-walk (Zandspruit to Allens Nek)

The Lord laid 1 Peter 1:13-16 (The Message) on my heart as the theme:
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
So roll up your sleeves, put your mind in gear,
be totally ready to receive the gift that's coming
when Jesus arrives.
Don't lazily slip back into those old grooves of evil,
doing just what you feel like doing.
You didn't know any better then; you do now.
As obedient children, let yourselves be pulled into a way
of life shaped by God's life,
a life energetic and blazing with holiness.
God said, "I am holy; you be holy."
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

I started off at about half past eleven; I had a route in mind and set off in that direction. Everything was under control.
Distance, timing, route and watering points along the way all lined up...

Then the Lord spoke into my heart: "Want to turn down there? ..."

That was a surprise - and as I always say - He never orders like a army-general or sergeant; He asks like a gentle Father. And I have learned when He asks if I want to take some direction ... it often is the longer route, but the BETTER way.

I turned to the right (knowing that it was a longer way) into that dirt road with a gush of water shooting into the air.

A water pipe is in the process of being fixed, but an attachment wasn't replaced tightly which left the water just spouting into the air over the road. Sparkling clear, clean water turned into streams of mud sweeping down the dusty road.

And the Lord said: "Follow those streams"
And I knew - Something great is about to happen - and I was on the way.

I quickly learned some basic thruths:

As I passed the fresh burst of clean water - it washed off some dirt from my shoes.
5 minutes later I sploshed through heel-deep mud - that same water now made me very dirty...
  • Clean water CLEANS
  • Contaminated water CONTAMINATES

That set the theme for this prayer-walk...

Always keep to the Source. The clean, uncontaminated Word of God.
Do not mix in any ideas, wishes, plans, cultural practices which will contaminate the pure Word of God.

The unaltered, clean, clear words from the Bible - God's Word - will wash you and purify you.
It will lead you to a life of holiness.
The Word, contaminated with man-made plans, exceptions, traditions will defile you.

Remember - God said, "I am holy; you be holy."

Lord Jesus
We pray for this nation now.
We pray Lord for all the traditions and practices which have been added to the gospel
To your Word.
We pray that You will cleanse it from this nation.
Lord we can only trust in You to purify this nation. Lead us Lord in how to do our bit in making this thing right.
Yes Lord search our hearts first and show us where we have let things come into our spiritual lives and in a way defiled the stream of Your Holy Word in us.
Where have we compromised?
Show even as we see these words right now Lord.
We want to be holy.
Sanctify us Lord.
Purify us.
Let us start afresh, shaking off the former beliefs, rooted in tradition or superstition.
Wash us Lord Jesus, with Your blood
Purify us Holy Spirit, to think like You do O God
and Father, forgive us for defiling and diluting Your WORD.
In Jesus' name
...amen

And that my friend, is the A-Z of my prayer for you -
Stay in the Word of God.
Read the pure unaltered Word.
Make a date with God. Say more than a prayer...

When last did you say?
When finally in your bed you lay

When last did you say?
even when you forgot to pray

When last did you say?
at the end of a day

When last did you say?
just before sleep, as you drift away

When last did you say?
"Goodnight Father God"

Pathway for Provisions

(Walk-back prayer-walk - Final Day)

This morning was definitively the highlight of this week's prayer-walk. The dusty pot-holed road I walked today was the reason for this whole week's prayer-walking. This was the road the Lord used to get this week's intercession going. This was the road to which I looked forward to all week.

It is only about 200 metres in length, but I estimate it has more rubble than what I have seen all week on all the other dirt roads combined.

People seem to use this piece of road as a place to ditch their building rubble.

You could almost describe it as a pile of rubble lying in a straight line ...

And this is what the Lord spoke to me about today's road:
Even though its dirty, damaged, dangerous and smelly, this road brings provisions for someone precious in the HIS sight. This short road connects the end of the tarred road to the Thandanani House of Refuge Each of the 45 children who has to date passed through those doors are indeed precious in His sight and that short road has been for them a
Pathway for Provisions.

Lord Jesus
so many people in this country are so hurt
It is difficult to reach them or to minister to them because their hearts are very very hardened.
The trash from other people's lives have made their own visions cluttered.
I pray Lord that You clear those areas in peoples where You can provide for ministry and interventions.
Lord its almost like the pathways to their jearts are cluttered with so much dirt.

So Lord we pray for healing.
Healing for so many people in our country.

Just heal and help us find each other and find the pathway to each other's hearts.

So there will be unity and understanding and as the name of that House says:
Thandanani - LOVE ONE ANOTHER

Lord we pray that in this country, You will cause people to understand each other better.

Lord we pray that in this country, You will cause us to love one another.

And most of all Lord we pray that people in this coutry will come to love YOU as You have loved them from long ago already.

In Jesus; name we pray

... amen

The Low-down on Slow-down (Walk-back prayer-walk - Day 4)

I felt a bit rushed this morning.

I even wondered if I could do a ride-and-pray on today's dusty pot-holed road. And when God is so gentle as He is - and gives you the option to do it your way - BUT you know it would be better His way, I suggest you always always do it His way.

As I parked and started walking towards the turnoff where the dirt road starts, I knew it was the right thing to do. If we are in a hurry, we won't see what He wants to show us. If we rush we will also not hear HIM. So I walked. And prayed. And it was a beautiful morning. And I walked. And I prayed ... You know the feeling - just doing something - and there is no spark or flame. And you stir the gift and you go through the motions ... That is how it felt. I asked the Lord what should I pray and how.

The Lord lead me to the outskirts north of the city for today's dirt-road prayer-walk. As expected, this road was also full of pot-holes. And then, as I walked, expecting something but still feeling rushed, I suddenly ... surprisingly ... under the shadows of a line of trees I feel HIS peace around me. That changes you!

That changes your prayer. That changes your desires in this world. His presence changes lives.

As I walked on He showed me something exquisite on that well used pot-holed dirt-road. I felt HIM nudge me to stop and look into a water-filled pot-hole. And sure ... that was a surprise ... That pot-hole was overflowing.

That pot-hole was the source for the water-filled pot-holes around it.

Inside that pot-hole was a fountain, almost the size of the mouse next to your computer.

From it came a constant stream of clear clear water. As the pot-hole overflowed, it filled the surrounding potholes with clear water.

I just sat there in awe and prayed with new enthusiasm

Lord God
How precious are your wonders,
"How precious is your steadfast love, O God!
The children of mankind take refuge in the shadow of your wings.
They feast on the abundance of your house,
and you give them drink from the river of your delights.
For with you is the fountain of life;
in your light do we see light.
Oh, continue your steadfast love to those who know you,
and your righteousness to the upright of heart! (Ps 39:7-9)

Lord God, we pray for your overflowing to fill this nation now.
Lord, fill us with your awesome presence.
Help this nation to see you and experience your love.
And let us be so overflowed in YOU that we will cause those alongside us to also overflow.

Amen

Fixing pot-holes by digging other holes (Walk-back prayer-walk - Day 3)

It always astounds me how God uses simple things in life to explain the deep and dark difficult stuff ...

This morning as I started out, I asked our Father where I should go. I was excited because of the previous 2 days and how he revealed those simple things to me.

He placed in my heart a yearning to go walk a very specific dusty (muddy) pot-holed road ... I knew about it but have never been on it. On the outskirts of the city - almost out of town -almost in the bush.

I started of praying for the leaders of our land and continued along a very very potholed road. I came to a crossing where I had the option of three directions. I asked the Lord if there is one specific road He wants me to take. I took the one I felt He nudged me on and soon it became clear that I was following the road on the edge of a very large quarry. A deep huge man-made hole with trucks going up and down into it to take more and more out.

And I realised - how often do we fix the pot-holes on the roads with sand and stones we get by digging other holes.

A hole gets replaced by digging another hole ...

And that changed my prayer:

Lord Jesus
So often so many of us are hurt even though we have walls of protection.
And when our own hearts are pot-holed, we fix it by digging for something in other peoples hearts.
And so we replace our own hurts by hurting others ...
And so too in this country oh God.
People hurt one another because they are hurt themselves.
Lord Jesus
Please bring an end to that
Please bring healing in a way we cannot do ourselves
Please touch this country - and stop the hurting intentions
Please stop people from hurting each other just to feel better themselves
Please heal the hurt-ed hearts in our land with Your love and fullness.
Lord Jesus
please show us how to deal with our hurts and pains
in a way that we won't hurt and damage other people
We are asking for a miracle
Please Lord - we pray for Your healing
In Jesus name
... amen

Forgiveness is a way towards healing without hurting others ...

Lord I love to be in Your presence

Back-walk prayer on a road to no-where (Day 2)

Back-walk prayer on a road to no-where

On this second day of prayer-walking - after a night of rain - the dusty pot-holed road became a muddy mess.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

As I passed the last townhouse complex to the overgrown veld (bush) I noticed lots of wild cosmos just blooming all over among and between the tall grass.

A pretty impressive sight
of flowers - pink and white
BUT here at the start - so bright
a special special sight
a cosmos neither pink nor white
BUT yellow and so bright

I felt the Lord say - Keep that in mind. So I did and started out on the prayer-walk.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Each day so far this week, the Lord has led me to walk a different road; but today, He taught me a precious lesson about a muddy pot-holed road.

Some would say it is a road to no-where ...
Some would say it is a dead end road ...
A road less traveled
And yes ... a river does indeed run through it!

A road is not a natural phenomenon. It is man-made and has a purpose.

Even this road serves to help people get out to where-ever they need to go.

But ... when they WALK-BACK on this road; it takes them ... HOME

It takes them home.

Therefore I now understand not to despise any old road. Even if it is rugged, pot-holed and river-ridden, it still leads to someone's HOME.

And that is the theme of my prayer this morning.

And as I walked, I know I was covered in prayer by my wife, interceding for me together with over 150 prayer partners from all over the world. All praying (be it a sentence or an hour or two) over the people of this country.

Lord Jesus
I think of all the dusty or muddy pot-holed roads in this land.
They take people to their homes - when they (mostly) walk back.
Roads taking people home.

I pray for many people today - who will be walking back on muddy or dusty roads - back to their homes.

And I pray Lord that in the spirit - they will find the road which will lead them back to You.

That road less traveled.
A road which is sometimes hard to walk
A road where the river of Your Holy Spirit runs through
A road filled with mercy and kindness and Your love.

Lord we pray that You will divinely visit this country and show people in remote areas the way to your kingdom

... and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it. (Matthew 7:14)

Lord we pray for a miracle in this land that will lead many to walk back with You.

We pray Lord that

With weeping they shall come,
and with pleas for mercy I will lead them back,
I will make them walk by brooks of water,
in a straight path in which they shall not stumble,
for I am a father to Israel" (Jeremiah 31:9)

And thank You God for proclaiming over your children - You are our FATHER.

Thank You Father

Thank You Father

Thank You Father

... amen.

And this is the song I got in my heart to sing over that old dusty pot-holed road:
Based on the song: That old rugged cross

In a place far away lies an old dusty road,
damaged by potholes and trodden to bits
and I know that old road always takes me back home
if I walk back the same way I came.

So I'll walk back on that old dusty road
All my pride and and my hatred must go
i will follow the call of my God
and I'll keep to the road where He leads

O that old dusty road - so despised by the world
has a wondrous attraction for me
for the dear Lamb of God left his glory above
to walk His own road of sorrow and shame

On that old dusty road, full of pot-holes and trash
a wondrous beauty I see,
for 'twas on an old dusty road where I once walked alone
that He reached down to sanctify me

To that narrow difficult way I will ever be true,
its shame and reproach gladly bear;
then he'll call me some day to my home far away,
where his glory forever I'll share.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

On returning on the muddy pot-holed road to the townhouse complex at the edge of the overgrown veld (bush) with its many wild cosmos just blooming all over among and between the tall grass, I felt a nudge in my heart to stop and look back.

A pretty impressive sight
of flowers - pink and white
BUT here at the end - so bright
a special special sight
that cosmos neither pink nor white
BUT yellow and so bright

I almost passed it. I almost missed it.

I felt the Lord say - Take it with and I gave it to my wife whose favourite colour is yellow.

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

And to you who prayer-walks with me in the spirit ...

Here's a special bunch of flowers ... Father sent it.

Walk-back Prayer-walk

We are here to serve God
and to walk the road where He leads ...
and He is leading me in my heart
to do a specific prayer-walk for a week
- on a dusty pot-holed road

And you're invited ...

Join me in the spirit to pray this week, for our nation

And this is how I believe we should pray, for hearts to turn:

"With weeping they shall come,
and with pleas for mercy I will lead them back,
I will make them walk by brooks of water,
in a straight path in which they shall not stumble,
for I am a father to Israel" (Jeremiah 31:9)

Thank You God that you proclaim over us that You are our Father
Thank You Jesus that we can pray with compassion for the people of South Africa to humble their hearts and in tears and repentance pray for Your mercy as we pray for the future of this land.
Thank You Holy Spirit that You will lead us back
to WALK BACK to a place of fullness.
Amen

Please pray with me for this week, daily at 0830
even while you're at work or on the road
'cause I'll be on that dusty pot-holed road
praying the uneven ground shall become level,
and the rough places a plain - as we
make straight in the desert a highway for our God.

And the glory of the LORD shall be revealed,
and all flesh shall see it together, (Is 40:3)

And on the first walk this morning I can say that the Lord encouraged me with this -
What happened in the past is over. We are here in the present to drink form the life-giving water He supplies for us and to grow in HIM.
To walk with HIM
To live in HIS ways...

Lord Jesus
I pray for the people of South Africa now
Lord many hearts are hardened - just like that hard pot-holed road.
Hearts full of bumps and holes as others have stepped on them
and messed with their feelings
and hearts trodden into the ground
self-worth smashed and broken in the sand
and tears have only helped to harden the walls around their hearts
Lord Jesus
it is with compassion that we pray these words
it brings tears to my eyes
to see how people
have been made to feel worthless
and how they have little hope for the future
and how they don't live ... live ...live ...
It is with tears that we turn to YOU
and look to YOU
and trust in YOU
and reach out and help each other up
build each other up
encourage each other
stir the gifts in each other
to come to YOU
in a new and fresh way
to say
F A T H E R . . .
F A T H E R . . .
M Y . . .
. . .
MY FATHER
We accept your declaration over us
We take it with all our hearts
My Father
A m e n ...
